The Great Escape

Let me start off by reassuring my family that I WILL be posting Christmas pictures, I just have to get my mom to email them to me first. I would be a little more on top of things, but at least one of us has been sick for the last week and a half and so things are running a little slow lately! :)

To hold you over I do have a pretty great story to tell about Carsen...

So, yesterday was our little man's last day in nursery! I can't believe how fast he is growing up. Because Parker was sick I ended up being the one to stay home with him, mainly because he wouldn't let go of me... literally! So Charles and Carsen go off to church alone, when they get home this is the story that I hear from Charles....

They have been taking the nursery kids into the big primary room for singing time and so they will be a little more comfortable when they become sunbeams next month. So I guess this

occurred during the above mentioned singing time. Charles said that he was in Sunday School and he had just finished reading aloud from the scriptures for the class when he glanced out the window, and what does he see? Our eldest son running along the sidewalk outside of the church! He waits for a minute and realizes that he hasn't seen anyone going after him and so he dashes out the door and begins to chase him. About this time Sister T. from the primary presidency rounds the corner of the building also in pursuit of our little escapee. They continue to chase him to the other side of the building where a nice brother or sister opens the door for the child and lets him into the building. Charles finally catches him and.... well he left out the details here, but I'm sure it wasn't pretty. He then took him back into primary and sat with him until it was over. Apparently they had propped the back door of the primary room open with a chair, and Carsen just couldn't help himself. I am sure that they just can't wait to have Carsen in primary with them every week from now on! :)

Why do I even try!

So today I woke up in a major cleaning mood and so I decided that I was going to tackle my bedroom, bathroom, and closet. I started with the bedroom and had it looking really great, at this point I decide to move on to the bathroom and closet. The boys were watching cartoons in my room and would come in to "help" me occasionally, but over all I think things are going great. So I finish the dreaded closet and bathroom and walk out to enjoy my newly cleaned bedroom only to find this.....

I honestly wonder why I even clean the house somedays! ;) Maybe that will be my
new excuse, " The kids will just destroy it within 15 min. anyway"!

So Excited!

We are SO excited to announce that we are expecting baby # 3!! Our new little one will arrive next summer, and we can't wait to meet him/her! When I told Carsen he informed me that he no longer wants a baby because we already have one! :) I am sure that he will change his mind sometime between now and then. However, I am a little nervous about how Parker will adjust to no longer being the baby.

Busted

No not the boys... This time I was busted! If you haven't read the 7 things about me post go ahead and read # 7 now. So after I talked about the whole chips and salsa thing I decided to sneak some while the boys were napping, but my secret rendezvous was not meant to be today. The boys woke up and as soon as they saw what was going on they had to have some too...

7 Things about me

I was "tagged" by Kami, who was my absolute best friend in elementary school, to share 7 things about myself. I am really a pretty boring person, so I hope that I can think of that many!

1. I hate to do the dishes! So much so that I will let them pile up in the sink until I HAVE to do them. We have a dishwasher, so it's not like I have to scrub them by hand or anything. And it's not like I hate to put them into the dishwasher, it's the UNLOADING that kills me. So... if you happen to come over and my sink is empty, feel very special because I probably did my dishes just for you! Now you know my dirty little secret. :)

2. To make up for #1 I will tell you about my secret love for vacuuming and doing laundry. No really, I LOVE to do the laundry and vacuum!! This wasn't always so... It all started last Christmas when Charles bought me Dyson Vacuum. Now I sneak away to spend time with my new obsession every time I get a chance! ( Don't tell Charles, I make him think it's work!)

3. When I go to visit my family in Utah I look forward to the places I get to eat almost as much as I look forward to seeing my family. Sad isn't it?! I usually plan my trip around eating at Taco Time... can you believe that they don't have one here?! It also must include at least one stop at the Malad Drive In! Charles made fun of me the first time we went to Utah together and I insisted we drive up to Idaho to go to the drive in, but his tune changed after eating their scones, chips, and milkshake! Our last trip guess who was the one making numerous trips across the border?!

4. I was born in Logan, Utah, and lived in Portage, and then Tremonton, Utah until I was 15 years old. I then moved to South Carolina, Virginia, and finally to Madison, Alabama. I went to 3 different high schools, I did NOT enjoy switching so many times, but I made many new friends. I feel blessed to still have many friends that I keep in touch with from all of the places that I have lived!

5. I love craft projects and I would spend all of my time doing these types of things if I could! However, with two little boys my time is not my own anymore. My problem with craft projects is that I have these big ideas and I start doing something, but then I run out of time or energy and I never make it back to what I was working on. I have a closet full of half finished projects that I need to pull out and complete! Unfinished project night anyone?!

6. I require WAY more sleep than the average person! This wasn't so much of a problem before I had kids, but when you have someone waking you up several times a night ,and then getting up for the day around 5:30... that's right folks, my kids wake up when it's still dark outside.... getting enough sleep becomes a huge problem! It is so sad, but some nights I go to sleep at like 8:00. :)

7. I sometimes sneak a snack when my kids aren't looking! I love chips and salsa! My kids also love chips and salsa, but I hate for them to eat it! It's not the best thing for them to eat, but it also makes a HUGE crumbly gooey mess. So I usually don't let them have this ..... however I eat this for a snack quite frequently. I almost feel bad for sneaking this behind their backs... almost!

Ok so now I am going to tag Stefanie, Dana, Alisha, and whoever else might read my blog

My Birthday

Last Tuesday I celebrated my 25th birthday! Because I was sick we didn't do a whole lot, but Charles and the boys treated me to a great evening at home! Charles made me dinner, it was so yummy that I told him he needs to cook at least one night a week from now on!! And then all of my boys gave me some sweet and thoughtful gifts. As you can see I received some soft hand towels. And bath salts to soothe my muscles and relieve my stress. ( Notice how big the bag is) I also got a new frying pan and a pasta strainer. I love gifts like these, that I can actually use!

The highlight of the night was when they presented me with a cookie cake that read " Happy Birthday Mommy"! That was the first cake I have ever had that said "Mommy" on it. It was so good, and we ate it for the next several days!

It was a great birthday and I am so grateful to the wonderful man in my life who made it all possible... that's right, I'm talking about you Charles! :)

Uncle Wesley

Wesley was born 11 years after I was, because of this I remember what he was like from the time he was born until now. I think my little brother is something else, I mean that in a good way of course! I decided to list just a few of the things that I love about my baby bro..

  • He is so easy going and laid back, he takes everything in stride.

  • He is like a sponge that soaks in everything around him and he enjoys sharing the things he learns with his nearest and dearest.

  • He can do fantastic card tricks, and I love going over to see his mini magic shows.

  • He is a fun uncle that enjoys playing with his nephews

  • He rocks at guitar hero!

  • He enjoys going to church and sets a good example for my boys

  • He loves the same t.v. shows as I do

  • He is great at saving his money

  • He can almost always make me laugh

As I said these are just a few of the things that I love about my little bro... what's not to love about him? :)

Pa Pa and Grandma to the rescue

Earlier this afternoon as my dad was pulling out of the driveway with the boys I was almost crying... not because I was going to miss my little guys, but because I was so relieved and grateful that they were going with their Pa Pa for the afternoon! .
I have been sick for the past several days, and although I am starting to feel much better, I think the lack of sleep just caught up with me this afternoon. I don't think I had ever been that tired in my life, and of course my boys would choose today of all days to NOT take a nap. So just as I am almost in tears, and feeling pretty sorry for myself, my dad calls and asks if he can come and get the boys. Both of the boys! Obviously my answer was yes, and as soon as they were out of the driveway I was in bed on my way to some relaxation and recovery!
I feel so blessed to live so close to my parents, and to know that they are always there when I need them. I know that my mom has probably been chasing Parker around the house and trying desperately to keep him out of her oven, while Dad has probably just finished watching Scooby Doo for the 126th time. And I know that they would do it all again tomorrow if I needed them to! ( Don't worry guys, I'm not planning on it :) )

A new favorite

Our boys have been blessed with a Grandpa who is talented enough, and willing, to build things for them! The newest addition to our home are these two little step-stools. Grandpa Wight finished them yesterday and the boys have hardly let them out of their sight since. Carsen carries his around the house, while Parker just scoots his across the floor. Here is a picture of them enjoying their fruit snacks while sitting on their stools. I didn't even get a chance to paint them before they started toting them around! Thank you again Grandpa Wight!

Guess who...

This little blue and white outfit has been passed down to our boys from their daddy! I have gotten a picture of both of them when they were about the same age as Charles in the photo. I'm sure you can tell which one is Charles.... right?

Pumpkins and Popcorn

We carved our first ever pumpkin as a family on Thursday night and we had TONS of fun! Charles informed me that he had never carved a pumpkin before, and he says that he doesn't ever remember even sticking his hand inside one until that moment! I let Carsen choose which design we should use and he wanted the "scary ghost".... so the scary ghost it was! I think Charles did a great job for his first attempt at carving. Carsen would NOT stick his hand inside the pumpkin, and so Charles would scoop out the "guts" and put them into his little pumpkin scoop. I tried to make some yummy toasted pumpkin seeds, but I left them in the oven too long and they were a little too toasty! Parker was the only one adventurous enough to taste them! Charles came to the rescue, yet again, and made us some very good popcorn in our stove top popper. We enjoyed our treat and watched some cartoons with the boys. It is nights like this that make being a parent worthwhile! The boys truly enjoyed playing with the pumpkin guts, outside of the pumpkin of course, and they are still enjoying the scary ghost that daddy carved for them!

Carsen's Party

Sorry it has taken me so long to post these pictures, but our computer at home completely died! I don't understand how we EVER lived without computers to begin with! Carsen's party this year was construction themed.... he wanted a "dirt" cake and so I took the idea and ran with it.

This was the front door, and the entrance to the "construction zone"

This was the food table

The "dirt" cake that started it all! I must say that it was SO yummy!

The Birthday Boy with his cake

I have more to post and I will do it just as soon as our computer is up and running, for now I need to run. We are at my moms house and the boys are getting a little crazy!

Tate Farms and Old McDonalds

The day of Carsen's birthday we went to Tate farms and the boys had a BLAST! Grandma Wight was kind enough to go with me and help out with the boys, and by the time we left I think we were both worn out! Carsen had a great time playing in the corn cribs... that's right it's plural because he had to play in each and every one of them. He also really enjoyed riding the trikes around the track and he was even brave enough to jump out of the hay loft. Unfortunately, mommy is too slow with the camera and I missed getting a picture of him! We did however find some very nice pumpkins to bring home and Carsen and Parker very much enjoyed the whole experience.... here are a few pictures from our day.

After our Tate Farms fun, we went home and cleaned up... I felt so bad because as I took Parker's diaper off a hand full of corn kernels fell to the floor. And his poor little bottom was covered in indentations! He is lucky my camera battery died or I would have proof of this to share with everyone!

Our fun evening then continued as we went to "Old McDonalds" for dinner and some fun at the play place with Grandma and Pa Pa. Carsen had a great birthday even though his daddy was out of town! I will post pictures from the party as soon as I get them onto my computer.

Happy 3rd Birthday!

(I am posting this a day early because tomorrow is Carsen's day and I won't have time for getting online to post!)

I can't believe that my baby is already three years old! I can't remember my life before he was born, and I can't imagine my life without him in it.

He is a curious and energetic little boy who has taught me more about patience than I ever wanted to know, along with many other things such as....
*tags on your clothing are offensive and MUST be removed before wearing
*toe fuzz is the enemy and must be picked out and examined as soon as it is discovered
*toy phones aren't nearly as cool as the real thing
*little ears are ALWAYS listening, even when you think they aren't
*little mouths are likely to repeat the things the little ears heard at inappropriate times
*public restrooms are much more fun to use than the one at home
*the true use of toilet paper is to be strung from one end of the house to another, or, if the amount is insufficient to complete this task, it should all be stuffed into the toilet at once.
*if in doubt of the safety of an activity, try it out on your little brother first
*you should absolutely under no circumstances sleep all night long, you might miss something interesting

And most of all from Carsen I have learned what it is like to love someone with absolutely all of your heart!

Younger Carsen

Younger and More recent-- as you can tell he has a favorite shirt

A new baby

Last night I was watching tv with Carsen and he says I want one of those... I asked him what he was talking about and he proceeds to tell me that he wants a baby. I told him that he has a hard time being nice to the baby that we already have. He tells me that he is going to be nice to Parker and that he will be nice to a new baby too. I am very amused by this conversation and so I ask him if he would like a boy or a girl baby. He thinks for a second and then tells me he would like a plain baby. :) By this time I can't help but start to giggle. After explaining that they don't come in "plain" he decides that he would like a boy baby. That was the end of the conversation and shortly thereafter he went to sleep.

Well, this morning when he woke up he was on a mission to be extra kind to Parker and so he could get his new baby. He loved on him and after he helped him eat his breakfast he walks over to me looking especially proud and asks, " can I have a new baby now?". He is too cute!

Some people have been blessed with children that can fall asleep anywhere, doing anything, at any time.... I am not one of those people. It takes a carefully planned evening, including, but not limited to, a warm bath, quiet play, a story, and the better part of an hour trying to convince my boys that falling asleep is a good idea. So imagine my surprise when I look over at Parker who was eating his afternoon snack to find this...

The poor little guy was so tired that he just fell asleep while eating his banana. This is honestly the first time that this has ever happened and so naturally I am in shock, not to mention slightly amused. He has been sleeping for about 20 minutes, and as much as I want him to sleep, I also know if I don't get him up soon the above mentioned routine will be extended by about an hour... ugggghhh what's a mom to do? :)

Thank you Mom and Dad!

With Charles being out of town so frequently, and for such long periods of time, it would be very easy to go completely crazy! However, I have been blessed with wonderful parents, and in-laws who know when I need a break, and are always willing to give me the much need relief that is necessary for me to maintain my sanity. My parents came to the rescue this past Friday when they took the boys and I to Chattanooga, or Chaganoota as Carsen calls it, for a couple days. We had so much fun at the Aquarium, and then we also went to the Discovery Museum for a couple of hours. The boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves and so of course so did I! Here are some fun pictures from our trip... enjoy :)

Big cows, Yogurt, and Storage unit food

OK so I am really horrible about updating .and have been reminded by about five people that I haven't updated in about a week.and so I thought I would catch you up on our lives! First of all I have to send out a big huge "thank you" to Lisa for suggesting downloading my answering machine manual off the Internet... we are no longer a Spanish speaking family! Sorry to all of those who were calling just to hear the machine.. you may have to talk to me now! :)
Earlier in the week Uncle Dusty stopped by to play with the boys and of course ended up down on the floor rolling around with them. So Carsen hops on his back and my mom says " are you riding a bull" and he asks what a bull is and my mom tells him it is like a big cow.... so Carsen starts saying he is riding the "big cow"... sorry Dust, but I'm glad he wasn't calling ME the big cow :)

Just a few days after the big cow adventure, the boys were sitting down having what I thought was a yummy snack and so I called my mom to ask her a quick question. I thought they would be so involved in eating that they wouldn't have time to get into trouble... WRONG! So I turn around and I notice that Parkers hair looks nasty... well it turns out that Carsen had emptied his yogurt container onto poor Parkers head.... ok so I take the yogurt away and think I will hurry and run to the bathroom before I take Parker up for a bath, well I come back and Carsen is holding one of my chair legs in his hand claiming that Parker pulled it off... umm yeah I don't think so!

Ok so fast forward to this morning and Carsen is standing in the pantry and I ask him what he wants for breakfast... he looks up at me and casually says, " I want to eat some of this storage unit food." He had me almost rolling on the floor. I am always looking forward to what he is going to say next! To finish off our fun week the boys also spent some time with Grandpa Wight exploring the leaves in the lot next door, followed by a day out with Grandma Hess and Papa... how lucky could two boys be?!

Potty Training, new shoes, and Spanish?

Some of you may know that we have been trying, unsuccessfully I might add, to get Carsen potty trained for at least 3 months. This has got to be one of the most frustrating parts of motherhood!! Well, with Charles being out of town I decided that getting C potty trained was going to be my "big keep me busy and so I don't go crazy without Charles" project..... and guess what?! It worked!! I wouldn't go so far as to say he will never have another accident, but he didn't have a single accident all day yesterday or through the night last night. He is actually telling me he has to go and that is a HUGE step in the right direction.. right?! I am just so proud of him that I had to share with everyone.

On another note, Carsen got a new pair of shoes this week that he absolutely LOVES!! Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a big flashy crazy kids clothes, shoes, hat, bedding, anything type of person, but Carsen really loved these shoes and they were only $15.... so I decided to let him think I was the coolest mom ever and got him some shoes that light up when he walks. The child has barely taken them off of his feet since! As you can see in the picture above, he didn't think pants were necessary, but those shoes.... can't go anywhere without them!
Apparantley Parker thought that he needed some attention this week as well because he somehow reprogrammed our answering machine and so it now answers in spanish!! For the life of me I can't figure out how to re set it! In desperation I even put Parker back in front of it hoping that if I watched him closely he might show me what he had done... no such luck. And so if you happen to call us and are greeted with Hola... don't hang up... it really is our house :) Well I must go and do the mountain of laundry that awaits me if I hope to make it to storytime this week!
Adiós.

Fun pictures of the boys

I was looking through my pictures and found several that I thought I would share. First is a picture of the boys on trash day.... these two LOVE the garbage truck and every Thursday morning as soon as they hear the truck coming down the road they run in and look out the window. I just love this picture of them!

You will probably notice that in most of the pictures I have of the boys they are only half dressed... this is because they hate clothing of any kind and would prefer to roam the house naked if permitted! See the picture ... need I say more?

Here is a rare moment captured on film! Carsen is on top of Parker, and Parker seems to be enjoying it! I know that there will be more sweet moments shared between these two little guys as they get older, but right now this is about as good as it gets!

I still have a few pictures from Playhouse Disney Live to post, but Carsen wants to "hang out and eat chips and salsa", and so I think I will go and enjoy some time with my little man.

Impressive and Delicious

After seeing Jennifer's post about the pinwheels I knew that my kids would think that they were great, and so I decided to try them out for myself. Carsen stood on a chair next to me while I spread the cream cheese, sprinkled on the shredded cheese, and placed the turkey over the spinach tortilla. He watched closely as I rolled it up tightly and as I began cutting his eyes got big and he turned to me and said, " That's very impressive mom." Of course this just melts my heart and I told him thank you! It only got better when a few minutes later as he was enjoying this "impressive" cuisine he looks up at me and says, " Mom this is so delicious!" He is such a funny boy and I am always looking forward to what he is going to say next! I can't believe that he is going to be 3 next month! Today we are taking him on an early birthday outing to see Playhouse Disney Live. I promise I will post pictures as soon as possible!

Parker was also very excited earlier this week when Grandma Wight gave him his very own silky blanket! I have to confess that I sleep with a soft satin-like quilt that my grandma made, and I have passed the love of this heavenly material onto my boys. Carsen has had his own blanket for years now and the pictures just don't show how excited Parker was to receive one of his very own!

Bumps and Bruises

Today was a big milestone day for us, Parker has his first official "big nasty bump on the head"! From my experience with Carsen I know that this is the first of many to come, but it still breaks my heart. My sweet baby boy ran full speed into the corner of the coffee table this morning and walked away with quite the trophy!

The other scratches on his face are the result of a run in with Carsen, a blanket, and a slide (don't ask) earlier in the week. This nasty bump has made my normally sweet little guy pretty darn cranky today, which resulted in Carsen being bitten on the back. Yes, shocking... Parker bit Carsen! Although I am thinking that the biting was triggered by one too many pokes to what Carsen has termed the "disgusting bump" forming on Parkers little head. Anyway, Grandma Wight saved the day by offering to have Carsen over to play... Thank you to Grandma Wight! :)

Oh and to those of you wanting me to do any vinyl for you, get with me this week because I am going to be trying to do a big order soon! Also, check out my new sister-in-laws blog! She just married my brother earlier this month and they have the cutest baby ( ellie the minnie beagle)! stefanieraehess@blogspot.com

Peace and quiet.... too quiet

After a fun and exciting day things are finally calm at our house tonight. While I do really enjoy the peace, I also miss the chatter of my charming little men. Parker has started trying to talk, and we have been having fun trying to translate, but apparantley we aren't doing a very good job because it seems that he is constantly frustrated with us for not doing as he asks! Those of you who know Carsen know what a little conversationalist he is. He has something to say about everything! This morning he had a little cough and he told me that he needed to eat some breakfast to wash his cough out of his throat and into his tummy... I could just eat him up!

Today was a big day for us, I took the boys to Kroger and they both rode in the little car together for the first time! This went surprisingly well and we made it through the store without any tears. Next we went to the mall with Grandma Wight and played in the play area for a little while. I'm not sure who enjoyed the toys more.. they boys or Grandma! I am so grateful that we have parents who live so near to us and enjoy playing with our boys as much, if not more, than we do!

Here we go....

Ok.... I too have been sucked into the wonderful world of blogging... I tried to resist, but the practical side of me says that this will be a great way for our our extended family and friends to keep up with us. Not only that, but now some of you, I won't mention names, won't have to beg us to send pictures of the boys. You will all have to be VERY patient with me because I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. I am thinking that I may have to persuade one of my younger more computer savvy siblings over to teach me how everything works... heaven forbid I admit to my dear husband that I don't know it all. Ha Ha I am really looking forward to sharing a little bit of our lives with you... it should be interesting, as anyone who knows Carsen knows that everyday is an adventure!
